Ellen's Perfect Sugar Cookies

These are hands down the best sugar cookies I've ever experienced. The recipe is my cousin Ellen's. She kindly gave me permission to share it with you and the entire south eastern United States.

These cookies are soft and taste like something from the finest bakery.

Have I convinced you that they are GOOD?

Try them for yourself.

Cookies

1 stick butter, melted
1 teaspoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups self rising flour

Mix first 6 ingredients together, then slowly add self rising flour. If dough is too dry and difficult to roll out, add a little milk. If dough is too sticky, add a little flour. Use your best baker's judgment.

Roll out with rolling pin. Use small amountt of flour to prevent sticking.

Cut out with cookie cutter or top of a drinking glass. You should know that the cookies will rise and spread a good bit in the oven, so expect them to be larger than the dough cut outs. Also, they are best when thicker. Don't feel like you have to roll the dough out super thin.

Bake on 350 degrees for 9-10 minutes. Watch closely and remove from oven BEFORE the edges brown.

Icing

1  stick butter melted
1 teaspoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups powdered sugar

Mix first 3 ingredients, then slowly powdered sugar. If dry, add milk. Stir in your food coloring of choice.
